About the Author

Dr. Evyatar Marienberg is a Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Originally from Israel, where he spent many years in yeshivas, or rabbinic institutions, he is a graduate of the Institut Catholique de Paris, and the School of Social Sciences (EHESS). In the past, he was a faculty, or fellow, at, among other places, Tel Aviv University, The University of Notre Dame, Harvard University, the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, and the University of Michigan. He is particularly interested in the study of beliefs and practices of lay Jews and Christians from various periods.
